How Can Artificially Disabled Actors be Considered Entertainment
Over recent years we have all become used to the constant barrage of what is termed reality TV with programmes ranging from the comical to the complete bazaar.
There doesn't seem to be any end to the demand for such programs but how far can they go with their suggestions for new ideas, well one researcher has landed herself in hot water for her thoughts.
Unfortunately the name of the individual cannot be published at this time but her suggestion to create a program putting celebrities into the world of the disabled for a week long reality show has caused outrage with many groups who cannot see the positive side to the programs intentions.
In was all sparked off when an email was sent to the UKDPC requesting if they could suggest any ideas on disabilities a program idea could artificially recreate for actors during a week long reality show. Theo Blackmore, Disability LIB Project Co-ordinator at UKDPC replied to the email with disbelief and suggested they might better film such a program with real disabled people highlighting their real life difficulties in dealing with public access and day to day living.
It goes without saying that the idea has been shelved following the awakening that has been delivered to the production company. The reality in the real sense of the word is that disability is something very relevant in the UK yet after decades of campaigning we are still letting these ordinary yet incapacitated people down. Still we build shops, offices, and other public access amenities without consideration for wheelchair access or platform lifts in areas where we could make life easier for some many people who simply cannot use stairs.
It is real food for thought however that any suggestion of creating an entertainment show with actors being artificially disabled goes for beyond entertainment, good intention or in deed taste.
